Arsene Wenger: Why I wanted Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla to stay at Arsenal
Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla have signed new deals at Arsenal
ARSENE WENGER has revealed why Arsenal handed new contracts to Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla.

Walcott was linked with a move to rivals Liverpool, while Cazorla was a target for Atletico Madrid before the pair agreed fresh terms last month.
Gunners boss Wenger was desperate to keep the duo in his Emirates squad, as he plots a title assault this season.

"I'm very happy because first of all, they are two exceptional players, and as well because I think the cohesion inside the club is an underestimated quality," he said.

"Santi is technically perfect, he’s a very intelligent player and a very good team player as well.

"Theo is a good goalscorer and he makes very intelligent runs. I think he's at a moment of his career where he knows that it's now time for him to completely fulfil his potential."

Wenger will be looking for Arsenal to kick off their Premier League campaign with victory over West Ham on Sunday (1.30pm).
