Jack Wilshere faces another lengthy stint on the sidelines |
Wilshere sustained the knock in training over the weekend, and scans have now revealed the midfielder suffered a suspected hairline fracture, according to the Daily Mail.
While Arsenal expect make a final diagnosis by the end of the week, if he needs surgery he could be out for up to three months.
The Gunners had previously stated Wilshere would miss the start of the season and would return after the international break in September.
The best possible scenario for the Arsene Wenger would see Wilshere sidelined for six to eight weeks.
It's the latest in a long line of injuries for Wilshere, who only returned to action in May after suffering ankle ligament damage after a challenge by Manchester United's Paddy McNair in November.
This latest set-back has once again raised fears for Wilshere's long-term future.
