Edinson Cavani is reported to be unhappy at PSG and could now move to Arsenal |
ARSENAL will complete a deal for PSG striker Edinson Cavani this week, according to reports.
Spanish publication Fichajes claim the Gunners have turned their attention to the Uruguay striker after becoming frustrated in their attempts to lure Karim Benzema from Real Madrid.
And while the Frenchman remains their top target, Cavani is reportedly seen as a viable alternative and could complete the switch this week.
Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Cavani but Louis van Gaal hit back at suggestions he needed striking reinforcements.
As a result, interest from Old Trafford appears to have cooled and it is yet to be seen whether they will compete for his signature with their Premier league rivals.
The 28-year-old is thought to be eager to leave Ligue 1 giants after two seasons in France.
Reports suggest he has fallen out with coach Laurent Blanc, potentially clearing Arsenal to swoop in and take advantage of the situation.
An offer of around £35million could tempt Blanc into parting with one of his strikers, representing a significant loss on the £45m PSG paid Napoli for him 2013.
Cavani has scored 34 goals in 65 Ligue 1 appearances since making the move but made his name in Serie A, scoring 78 goals in 104 games during a prolific spell in Naples.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be keen on adding that sort of firepower to his front line after coming in for criticism about the lack of depth up front at the Emirates.
