APPLE is believed to be preparing to launch its next-generation Apple TV top-set box alongside its upcoming iPhone announcement, scheduled for September 18th.
Apple is reportedly preparing to unveil a new version of its Apple TV next month.
The Cupertino firm has not refreshed its digital media player since January 2013.
The iPhone manufacturer was rumoured to launch new hardware during its Worldwide Developers Conference, back in June.
Instead Apple used the conference to announce its long-rumoured music streaming service, Apple Music.
The new Apple TV is rumoured to boast a thinner new design as well as an A8 processor and an increase in RAM.
It is understood the upgraded internals will allow Apple to bring across its voice-assistant Siri to the set-top box.
Aside from barking orders to your telly, a new remote control with touchscreen controls is also rumoured to ship with the updated device.
Trackpad-like swipes and taps were listed as possible inputs for the TV remote, which was detailed in an approved Apple patent.
The same patent, approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office, also lists a number of custom gestures for Apple TV.
Other notable changes are the inclusion of an Apple TV App Store, which will have a number of third-party games and apps for the media streaming device.
Earlier this year, a number of sources within Apple suggested the firm was planning to launch its own web-based television service.
The cable television replacement would reportedly boast some 25 live TV channels, sold as part of a monthly £30 subscription.
However it is believed Apple will now delay the service until early 2016 due to a delay in finalising deals with a number of content providers.
The final new addition to the latest Apple TV hardware is rumoured to be the inclusion of Apple's own HomeKit technology.
This will allow the Apple TV to become the central hub for your smart connected devices around the home.
After signing in with the same Apple ID on an iOS device and Apple TV, users will be able to talk to Siri to remotely control lights, door locks, smart plugs, kettles and more.
Apple is believed to be preparing to announce the new hardware alongside its iPhone update so the device is in-stores for the December holiday rush.
The next iPhone – dubbed either iPhone 6S or iPhone 7 – is rumoured to boast a pressure-sensitive Force Touch display and hugely improved cameras.
