It appears the 16GB storage option is here to stay, at least until the Apple iPhone 7 |
Apple will unveil its latest iPhone – dubbed the iPhone 6S – during an event in San Francisco on September 9th.
The latest iPhone refresh is expected to add ForceTouch pressure sensitivity to the display as well as an improved front and rear camera.
New colours as well as a faster processor are also rumoured to make an appearance in the new Apple smartphone.
However one thing that will reportedly not change with the latest iteration of iPhone is the amount of internal storage bundled with the entry-level model.
A leaked information panel form the iPhone 6S appears to confirm the 16GB option is here to stay |
It suggests that Apple is sticking to its guns and offering just 16 GB to those who buy a base model, which is rumoured to start from £539 SIM-free.
Apple removed the 32GB option when it introduced the iPhone 6 last year, bundling 64GB of internal storage for the same price.
The new operating system, iOS 9, includes a number of smart storage-saving features, including the ability to temporarily delete apps when installing large OS updates.
However rumoured iPhone 6S features like the 12megapixel rear camera and ability to shoot ultra-high definition 4K video means 16GB owners could soon find themselves frantically scrabbling for free storage.
Apple does offer online storage for its users, which can be useful to offload older photographs and videos, but iCloud storage tiers can be more expensive than competitors.
Some supplier reports earlier in the year reported the new iPhone lineup would start at 32GB.
