Pierce Brosnan as James Bond
PIERCE BROSNAN says that a gay James Bond is a possibility after David Oyelowo becomes the first black actor to play OO7, but could the biggest womaniser in cinema history really go gay?

James Bond is a notorious ladies man. Or is he?

Former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has stirred up controversy by saying that he would like to see a gay James Bond one day.
“Sure. Why not?”, he says. "It would certainly make for interesting viewing.”
Things certainly got "interesting" in Bond's last, ahem, outing in Skyfall.

Javier Bardem's villainous Raoul Silva seemed to seduce 007 as he unbuttoned his shirt and provocatively ran his hands all over the secret agent's thighs.
"First time for everything," he teased.
"What makes you think this is my first time?" fired back Bond, as audiences around the world gasped at the insinuation.
Brosnan doesn't think such a radical change will happen any time soon, however. Especially while veteran Bond producer Barbara Broccoli holds the reins of the franchise.

“Actually, I don’t know how it would work," he added. "I don’t think Barbara would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime."
Recent on set featurettes for the upcoming Bond film SPECTRE also heavily play up Bond's involvement with the latest bevvy of exotic temptresses, played by Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci and Stephanie Sigman. Click here to meet the latest Bond beauties.
Even so, film fans have seized on the speculation.
Twitter user Sob wrote: "Wait, James Bond may be gay?! Imagine him picking up the male villain instead of the usual female assistant. Mental"
DirtbagDaniel reckons the new incarnation of OO7 would also need a new signature drink, writing: "Gay James Bond: I'll have a daiquiri, shaken not stirred."

Brosnan, himself, is more enthusiastic about the possibility of a black actor succeeding Craig in the role.
Excitement at the thought reached fever pitch when British star David Oyelowo became the first black actor to be cast as OO7 for the audio version of the latest book, Trigger Mortis.
“Let’s start with a great black actor being James Bond. Idris Elba certainly has the physicality, the charisma, the presence,' Brosnan added.
"But I think Daniel [Craig] will be there for a while yet.”
