David Hasselhoff and Zac Efron |
ZAC EFRON will star in new 'R-Rated' big screen version of Baywatch with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. But what about David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson?
Efron is being lined up to play a “young rule-flouting hothead” in the big screen adaptation of the 1980s show.
Director Seth Gordon is responsible for raucous adult comedies Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief, so the new film is expected to be a lot ruder than its rather tame TV source material.
Dwayne Johnson will play the sober and serious chief lifeguard who disapproves of his new recruit in the new film.
The pair are forced to work together when a reckless evil oil tycoon causes an environmental catastrophe that threatens their beach.
Johnson tweeted his joy at Efron's casting and joked that the new film would be a much more adult, R-rated (The US version of X-rated) affair.
BIG NEWS: Welcoming my dude @ZacEfron to #BAYWATCH. Our movie will be big, fun and RATED R.. Like me when I drink. https://t.co/8DPMJSEG9K

There is no word yet on who will fill the roles of the requisite bikini-clad lovelies so famously led on the show by Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth and Carmen Electra.
The show's legendary opening credits were a notable source of illicit entertainment for young men around the world.
Regarded as kitch and humorous now, the scenes of scantily-clad bathing beauties running in slow motion towards the camera were titillating at the time.

Efron, himself, is no stranger to flaunting his body after recent star topless turns in That Awkward Moment and Neighbours.
His new film Dirty Grandpa has already caused an internet sensation with pictures of him naked on a beach and hilariously flexing his muscles with an impressively toned Robert De Niro.
Johnson has just finished saving the day as a helicopter rescue pilot battling earthquakes and tsunamis in San Andreas, so a little oil spill should be no problem for him.
Original star David Hasselhoff has already said that he would be keen for a part in the new film.

Back in 2012 when the film was first being discussed he claimed that he would cameo as himself rather than appear as his character Mitch Buchannon.
Last October he joked that he would be happy to appear as a geriatric version of himself.
"They'll probably make it into a spoof, the same thing [happened] with Knight Rider," he continued.
"It's kind of sad, because I would like to have seen the franchises go on, and let me play the old guy who can't run down the beach."
He'll find out soon enough – the new Baywatch film is expected to start production early next year.
