BAYERN MUNICH were not ready for Olivier Giroud after being worn out by Theo Walcott, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Giroud came off the bench to open the scoring for Arsenal in last night's 2-0 win at the Emirates.
Walcott had a header saved by Manuel Neuer in the first half but Arsenal played on the break for the majority of the night.
Bayern recorded over 600 passes but were unable to break through Petr Cech.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes the Germans couldn't cope with the different attributes Giroud provided after coming on.
"A great thing about the result is Theo Walcott had a couple of half-chances to try to really stretch the Bayern defence," Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
"Then for Arsene Wenger to be able to bring on someone [Giroud] with such contrasting style is such a great asset to have.
"As a defender you play against pace, pace, pace all game and them someone comes on and he wants the ball in and wants to be physical and you have to change your game quickly as a defender. If you are not on it, you can find that difficult.
"I don't think Bayern were ready for that type of player to come on, they were all geared up to play against pace."
Giroud admits he needed help from above, but insists the Gunners are still on course to progress through the group.
"For a striker it always works in cycles and I know that. You can't start doubting yourself," Giroud said.
"All the qualities are there I just needed a helping hand from destiny, and tonight it worked out in my favour. Now we can look ahead.
"It's good to have won this match because it means we're still on track for the last 16, but we'll need to beat Olympiakos and Zagreb, and why not cause Bayern a few problems over there."
