Tottenham 1 - Watford 0: Dele Alli comes on to help inspire win as Spurs climb to second

DELE ALLI came off the substitutes bench to ensure Tottenham avoided any slip ups against Watford as Spurs narrowly won at White Hart Lane.

 



Kieran Trippier has featured in every Europa League game this season for Tottenham

 

The England international was left out by Mauricio Pochettino but he was introduced on the hour mark and provided the assist for the only goal of the game.

Alli broke down the left channel in the 64th minute after latching onto a ball from Mousa Dembele before pulling it across for the unlikely hero Kieran Trippier to finish it off.

The right-back had made his way up the field as Tottenham searched for a winner in a game they dominated throughout, and fans were grateful the summer signing did.

 

Trippier's first Premier League goal for the club against Quique Flores' side in only his fifth league appearance for Spurs could help the ex-Burnley man kick start his north London career.

Pochettino's side capitalised on Manchester City's failure against league leaders Leicester to secure themselves second spot in the table with a title charge truly on.

Meanwhile, Watford looked a shadow of the side that has impressed so much this season, and had it not been for Heurelho Gomes and his defence, the Hornets could have been on the end of a thrashing.

Troy Deeney was left on the bench and Watford's top scorer Odion Ighalo failed to make a mark on the game as a result. The Hornets dropped to 10th in the table following their defeat.
