BURNLEY manager Sean Dyche says the club are yet to receive a transfer fee from Liverpool for Danny Ings.
Burnley were entitled to compensation because Ings was under 24 years of age when his contract expired.
The two clubs are set to go to a tribunal to agree a fee, which was thought to be around £2million.
But Dyche says he is still waiting for the money.
“It’s not helpful,” he said.
“Like any business, ideally, you get funds in and then you look and say ‘what can we put out’.
"That is a grey area for us with no knowledge of where it will end up.
“So that is a challenge. But they are the rules, whether we agree, like them or dislike them, they are the rules.
“We are certainly hoping it’s by the end of the season, to bring closure for everyone, for all parties.”
Burnley signed two players during the January transfer window - James Tarkowski arriving from Brentford and George Green coming in from Oldham.
The Clarets sit third in the Championship, four points off league leaders Hull, who they face on Saturday.
As for Ings, the striker suffered a season-ending knee injury back in October, having scored three goals for Liverpool this term.
