CLAUDIO RANIERI laughed out loud when informed that Leicester City were now the new Premier League title favourites after their demolition of Manchester City.
The Italian whose side enjoy a six point lead at the summit following the 3-0 victory at the Etihad admitted: “I don’t believe the bookies. At the beginning of the season they said that Ranieri would be the first manager to be sacked this season. But I hope they will be right this time!”
He refused to be carried away by another stunning performance from a side who only stayed in the Premier League last May by the skin of their teeth.
Ranieri stated: “It’s a crazy, crazy Premier League. The spirit of my team is fantastic, It’s the best spirit I have known in my career.
“We are enjoying it. We don’t want any pressure, we just want to enjoy everything. We want to continue in this way. I don’t think about winning the League.
“It’s fantastic that the fans are singing ‘We’re Going To Win The League’. We want them to keep on dreaming.
“Next it’s Arsenal, another tough football match, more fantastic players, another fantastic stadium but we are alive and we want to fight.
“Against Manchester City we were never afraid. We wanted to win. But it’s important that the players can recover because they run more than a bull.”
Dejected Etihad boss Manuel Pellegrini who announced at the beginning of the week that he was to be replaced in the summer by Pep Guardiola admitted that Leicester were now the favourites to win the Premier League.
“If they continue the way they are playing they are the favourites because they are doing well and have an advantage in points,” he said.
But he added: “There are still 39 points to play for. It’s important that we focus game by game. There are still a lot of things that can happen but we are not in the best moment.
“We just have 14 fit players and we have played a lot of games. But this was a defeat we didn’t expect.”
