JOEL MATIP has reportedly agreed a pre-contract with Liverpool.
The Schalke defender is a free agent in the summer and is high on Jurgen Klopp's transfer list.
He had tried to bring him to Anfield in January but the German side are still hopeful of keeping him long-term.
However, according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Matip will join Liverpool when his contract ends.
Liverpool did manage to bolster their depleted defence with the signing of Steven Caulker last month.
The England defender joined on loan from QPR after a difficult spell at Southampton.
Liverpool have conceded more goals than any other side in the top half - 32 in the 24 games.
Matip, 24, is a Cameroon international and joined Schalke in 2000, making his debut nine years later.
