The striker was expected to be involved but has been left out of the squad completely for Liverpool's trip to Upton Park.
Jordan Henderson was ruled out with a recurrence of a heel injury picked up against Sunderland in the week.
While the Reds are also without Martin Skrtel, Divock Origi, James Milner and Joe Allen with Danny Ings and Joe Gomez still out long term.
Jordon Ibe has come in from the start for Adam Lallana and plays with Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho behind Christian Benteke.
West Ham meanwhile make three changes to the starting XI and have Dimitri Payet back in the squad.
Aaron Cresswell, Manuel Lanzini and Andy Carroll come in for Carl Jenksinon, Alex Song, and Mauro Zarate.
