NEWCASTLE are ready to spend £28million on two players in a bid to climb away from the Premier League relegation zone, according to reports.

Swansea star part of Newcastle's £28m double swoop this January
Jonjo Shelvey is thought to be valued at £10m

The Magpies sit 18th in the table, two points off safety.
They have scored just 19 league goals this season and have lost their last four games in all competitions.

d the Daily Mail claim Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is set to stop the rot by signing off on two transfers this January.
It is claimed the club will make a bid for Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, with the Welsh outfit willing to accept £10m for their 23-year-old.
Shelvey joined Swansea from Liverpool in a £5m deal back in 2013 and has made 24 appearances for the club and England combined this season.

But with interim Swans manager Alan Curtis seeking his own recruits, it is thought Shelvey could be offloaded before February's transfer deadline.
It is added that Newcastle's £18m offer for Saido Berahino - lodged last summer - is still on the table.
Tottenham are also keen on securing Berahino's signature but Newcastle believe they can land the former England U21 striker this month.
Berahino, 22, is keen to leave the Hawthorns and threatened to go on strike at the start of the season as Spurs came close to landing him.
