SUNDERLAND are hoping to hijack Aston Villa's loan deal for Mathieu Debuchy, according to reports.
Debuchy was understood to be close to a move to Villa Park, with website Football Insider revealing last week a deal was close.
Arsene Wenger reportedly sanctioned the move but was delaying his exit until the end of the transfer window.
But according to the Daily Mail, Sunderland have taken advantage of the delayed negotiations to table their own offer.
Sam Allardyce is said to have been in London yesterday to iron out a deal with Arsenal officials.
And it's understood the Gunners are seeking a permanent deal, although a loan until the end of the season is the most likely outcome.
Debuchy has made only seven appearances this term in all competitions and has been forced out by 20-year-old Hector Bellerin.
