ARSENAL are set to pocket £1.5million from Benik Afobe’s move to Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old joined the south coast club on Sunday in a deal worth £10m from Wolves.
Afobe was a Gunners academy graduate and highly rated within the club but his time was disrupted by two long-term knee injuries.
He also had loans with various degrees of success at Huddersfield, Reading, Bolton, Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons.
But according to The Times, Afobe’s promise was enough for Arsenal to insert a sell-on clause of 15 per cent when he was sold to Wolves for £2m in January 2015.
Arsenal also included the option to re-sign Afobe if they matched the fee offered by another club.
Yesterday, Wenger expressed his delight at the striker’s progress.
“I don’t know how well he’ll do at Bournemouth, but he has the qualities to integrate at a team like Bournemouth,” Wenger said.
“I’m very pleased he has done well; he had an outstanding attitude here and I hope he does well there.
“I’m very happy because we have contributed to his success.
“And the fee? I believe it’s a normal price. £10million is not excessive.
“He’s scored the goals in the lower league. The risk is not too much.”
