REMI GARDE has pledged to stay with Aston Villa regardless of their fate this season - and he insists the rock bottom club will back him.

Remi Garde: I want to stay at Aston Villa even if we are relegated to the Championship
Remi Garde's struggling Aston Villa have scored just five goals in their last eight league games

Garde says he will not walk away from Villa Park even if the team are relegated from the Premier League. And he claims the Villa hierarchy have promised him he is still their man despite eight games without a win since he took over from Tim Sherwood.
Asked whether he wanted to stay and if the club had given him assurances, Garde said: "Yes. Both answers are yes."
And chief executive Tom Fox said: "We are building something special and Remi Garde is a massive part of what we are trying to build."

Overall, Villa are now without a win in 18 Premier League games since beating Bournemouth on the opening day of the season. And they are 11 points from the safety line after collecting just eight points so far.
But Garde said: "I have a very good feeling in my mind. I'm still frustrated not to have won a game in this country for sure, but I'm still looking at it with an optimist's view.
"I am full of confidence for what we can achieve in this club. Of course the short-term is not brilliant but nothing has changed in my mind."
Garde's men face Sunderland today at the Stadium of Light but does not believe it is a relegation six-pointer. "It's a very important game but this is not the last chance we will have," he said. "There will still be a lot of points to be won."
