NEWCASTLE are edging closer to the January signing of wantaway winger Henri Saivet from French side Bordeaux, according to reports.
The 25-year-old Senegal international is believed to have informed boss Willy Sagnol of his desire to leave the club in December.
And according to French outlet Sud Ouest, Newcastlle will open transfer negotiations with the Ligue 1 side today after sending representatives to Bordeaux in an attempt to agree a fee
Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud recently admitted that any players who have expressed a desire to leave the club will be offloaded for the right price.
"Players have made it clear that they want to leave. We will not oppose that if the numbers (transfer fees) are what we expect. Then if they go, we will consider the possibility of reinforcements," he said.
It has also been understood that the player missed training yesterday.
And the Daily Mirror claim the Magpies are set to increase their initial £3million bid as well as offer him a five-and-a-half-year-deal in an attempt to see off interest from Premier League rivals Southampton.
Saivet has made 24 appearances and has scored four goals for Bordeaux this season.
