MARKO GRUJIC is set to become Jurgen Klopp's first signing as Liverpool manager.
The 19-year-old Serbian midfielder has landed in England to undergo a medical ahead of £5.1million from Red Star Belgrade.
Chelsea and Inter Milan were also both interested in signing the youngster but Klopp's personal intervention has persuaded Grujic to move to Anfield.
The Liverpool Echo claim that Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA Moscow both attempted late swoops to lure the Serb to Russia, both offering 10m euros, but he flew to Merseyside on Sunday for a series of medical tests before agreeing a long-term contract.
"On 4th January I will become a Liverpool player," said Grujic.
He was part of the Serbia squad that won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand back in June and it's understood that he will be loaned back to Red Star for the remainder of the season.
Grujic will require a work permit to join Liverpool, who sit eighth in the Premier League table after losing 2-0 to West Ham on Saturday.
