MANCHESTER UNITED have been dealt a blow in their pursuit to re-sign Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo would consider a future move to the MLS

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Ronaldo since Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager in 2013, with both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal credited with an interest.
United boss Van Gaal has made no secret of his desire to add pace and creativity to his front line and is reportedly prepared to spend big to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese star made 292 appearances for United between 2003 and 2009 before he moved to the Bernabeu for a then-world record fee of £80m.

But the 30-year-old has effectively poured cold water on a potential return to United after opening the door to a future move to the MLS.
The three-time Ballon d'Or winner has been impressed with the calibre of players the league has already attracted, with the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard all arriving last year.
"What's happening there is great, it's fantastic. Maybe in the future will be a good chance for me to play there," Ronaldo told GQ magazine.

"You never know, but it's something interesting. I consider it, of course, because, as I've said, soccer there has become better and better, so why not?
"I think that this is maybe going to be possible. I know that many players move there. I think it's becoming better and better.
"It's growing, I think it's good. It's good for me and young players that maybe one day we want to move there. So it's good that football - 'soccer' - grows there."
