MANCHESTER UNITED have made signing in John Stones a top priority in the January transfer window according to reports.

The 21-year-old was the subject of a number of bids last summer as Jose Mourinho attempted to add him as a long-term replacement for John Terry.
However, Roberto Martinez stood firm and the failure to sign Stones has been cited as one of the reasons Mourinho lost his job just before Christmas.
But resolve is set to be tested once again in January as Roman Abramovich redoubles his efforts to sign the centre-back.
 
And he will not be the only one chasing Stones’ signature, as according to RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi Louis van Gaal will attempt to lure the England defender to Old Trafford.
problems this season which have seen them crash out of the Champions League have hardly been defensive.
 
But if Stones is available, then he may represent a January marquee signing which may appease United fans, the vast majority of whom have been calling for Van Gaal to be sacked.
Whether or United are the final destination for Stones though there is likely to be a hefty transfer fee with reports suggesting it will take £50million for Everton to part with their man.
