According to to Italian super agent Vincenzo Morabito, Manchester United made a move for Athletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone before appointing Louis van Gaal.
Morabito told Corriere dello Sport: “In the spring of 2014, United contacted me – they had chosen Simeone to take over from Moyes.
“I called Natalia, his agent and sister, to organise a meeting in Madrid. When we arrived, Natalia greeted us in a hotel.
“He didn’t want any further speculation. United made an offer, which required a response within 10 days. Diego said no.”
Meanwhile, Get French Football News claim Manchester City have made a move for United target and Fulham striker Moussa Dembele.
Fulham have reportedly set a £12million price tag on the France Under-20 international, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
And finally, long-term United target Mats Hummels insists he is under no pressure to sign a new deal at Borussia Dortmund, which runs out in the summer of 2017.
The Red Devils are expected to their interest in the German defender this month, but Hummels admits he is not worried over his Westfalenstadion future.
The 27-year-old said: "There have not been any talks in any direction. Everything's still very quiet. I am relaxed about this issue because I don't see that I am pushed for time."
