MANCHESTER UNITED will wait until the summer to sign Everton striker Romelku Lukaku.
The 22-year-old has been in scintillating form for the Toffees this term, sitting top of the Premier League goalscoring table with 15 strikes to his name already.
And according to the Daily Mirror, United are prepared to spend a stunning £40million to land the Belgium international.
United were reportedly interested in Lukaku in the summer, but Louis van Gaal decided against a bid after the £36m arrival of Anthony Marital.
The Red Devils have reportedly since made contact with Everton for the former Chelsea man, but have been told he is not for sale this month.
However, Van Gaal is prepared to wait until the end of the season to sign Lukaku, who cost Everton £28m from Chelsea in 2014.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez was forced to deny the existence of a verbal agreement to allow Lukaku permission to leave the club this summer.
"That is not true, I would never do that," the Spaniard said. "I think that would be very negative.
"If you do that could you imagine the last two months for that player? He would never put a leg in or never challenge for the ball. I don't agree with doing that.
"I know you can do that to keep a player for another 12 months but if you're not going to have a player 12 months down the line you need to start replacing him to have a stronger team."
