MANCHESTER UNITED manager Louis van Gaal has been boosted by Matteo Darmian’s availability following a worrying looking injury.

Louis van Gaal given good news ahead of Man United’s huge FA Cup clash on Friday
Matteo Darmian has played the full 90 minutes in just nine of Manchester United's 23 league games

The full-back was forced to be substituted during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford.
However, a swift return to the team looks set for Darmian ahead of a potentially troubling trip to Championship outfit Derby on Friday night in the FA Cup.
Italy international Darmian tweeted that he was "fine” after being taken to hospital "spitting blood" from a rib injury suffered in a hefty collision with the Saints’ Shane Long.

A defensive crisis has rocked the Red Devils this season with continuing injuries which have left them stretched.
Currently four other full-backs are sidelined at United, with Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young all out.
Despite the long list of absentees throughout the squad and poor attacking form, Darmian’s return will come as some relief to Van Gaal who has much on his mind of late.

News News Blog Sport understands that United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward wants to keep hold of the ex-Barcelona boss till the summer.
A return to his homeland for his daughter’s birthday this week will have provided Van Gaal with some time to reflect on his position.
He is now ready to fight the next battle and ensure the squad has his backing amid reports senior stars in the dressing room want him gone.
