LIVERPOOL'S injury jinx struck again as Jordon Ibe gave them a push towards Wembley with a vital Capital One Cup semi-final first-leg goal at Stoke.
Ibe came on as a substitute to score in the first half after playmaker Philippe Coutinho and centre-back Dejan Lovren both limped off.
That double blow was the last thing manager Jurgen Klopp needed, having seen his squad ravaged by a series of injury setbacks.
Klopp now has no fewer than 11 players on his casualty list - including captain Jordan Henderson, strikers Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, and centre-back Martin Skrtel.
And the former Borussia Dortmund boss has had to deal with 24 separate injuries to his squad since he took charge in October.
But the Liverpool boss could be proud of the steel his side showed, as they put up more of a fight than they did in a limp Premier League defeat at West Ham on Saturday.
And Ibe's goal has given Klopp hope of a first trophy since arriving on Merseyside, with his side taking a lead in the second leg at Anfield in three weeks' time.
