LIVERPOOL legend John Aldridge believes Jurgen Klopp will bring another keeper to Anfield in the summer to compete with Simon Mignolet.
His credentials as Liverpool's No 1 have been questioned this season and the spotlight on him has intensified after his back-up, Adam Bogdan, made awful mistakes against Watford and Exeter last month.
Aldridge, who made more than 100 appearances for Liverpool in the late 1980s, believes the new contract proves that Klopp has belief in Mignolet.
But he adds that another keeper should come to Anfield in the summer to provide competition for the Belgian.
Aldridge wrote in the Liverpool Echo: "As a shot-stopper he’s tremendous and he’s working hard on the other elements of his game.
"However I don’t think this news will stop Jurgen Klopp looking to bring in another keeper to battle for the number one position in the summer.
"When they brought Adam Bogdan in I thought he would be really good for the club. But what happened at Watford has really hampered him.
"The manager will probably go and get a keeper to fight Mignolet this summer for first choice.
"What this deal for Mignolet does show however is that Jurgen Klopp has belief in him."
Liverpool have recalled keeper Danny Ward from his loan spell with Aberdeen and the 22-year-old Welsh keeper impressed in the 21 appearances he made in Scotland.
Aldridge adds that Ward could eventually play his way into contention at Anfield.
"Danny Ward could be that man eventually but he’s probably still a bit young at this stage," he said. "He’s been absolutely brilliant at Aberdeen though in the Scottish Premier League and he’s one for the future."
