LEEDS UNITED have failed in their attempts to sign Sam Winnall from Barnsley, according to reports.

Leeds United told to up striker offer by £700,000
Sam Winnall has scored 15 goals this season

Leeds are believed to have offered around £300,000 for the striker.
But The Yorkshire Post claim Barnsley want at least £1million for their star man.

Leeds are said to have baulked at that demand and have dropped their interest.
Owner Massimo Cellino has already said new signings are "unlikely" before Monday's 11pm transfer deadline.

Leeds have pursued a number of forwards this month but each attempt has come up short.
Interest in Stoke's Peter Crouch and Celtic's Tom Rogic came to nothing, while an enquiry into Aston Villa midfield Jack Grealish was swiftly turned down.

Leeds appeared ready to sign Kyle Lafferty from Norwich - only for the West Yorkshire club to back away when the Canaries demanded a permanent transfer over a loan move.
As for Winnall, the former Scunthorpe ace boasts 15 goals for the season and has bagged eight goals in his last six outings.
