And The Sun on Sunday claims Mourinho expects to be United's new manager within the next six months and there has already been informal talks between himself and the club.
Louis van Gaal's job at United has come under renewed pressure with reports suggesting that defeat to Liverpool would see him sacked.
United are in fifth place in the Premier League, two points off a place in the Champions League.
