SIMON MIGNOLET has signed a new contract keeping him at Liverpool until 2021.

Confirmed: Simon Mignolet signs new contract at Liverpool until 2021
Simon Mignolet has signed a new deal at Liverpool

The goalkeeper has come under renewed scrutiny this season for his performances, but that has not deterred the Anfield club from extending his stay on Merseyside.
Mignolet’s previous deal was only due to expire in the summer of 2018, but that has been ripped up and replaced by a new five-and-half-a-year arrangement.

The decision will polarise opinion among Liverpool supporters with Mignolet having been unconvincing for two goals in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw last week.
Liverpool’s vulnerability from set-pieces was again exposed in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, although Mignolet could not be blamed for Wayne Rooney’s 78th minute winner.

The Belgium international had been publicly backed by manager Jurgen Klopp, who has frequently insisted he is not looking for a new goalkeeper while describing Mignolet as one of the “smartest goalkeepers” he has ever worked with.

The contract extension comes with Joe Allen having had no contact from the club despite entering the final 18-months of his deal. Jon Flanagan, Jordan Rossiter and Jerome Sinclair are all out of contract this summer and have been unable to agree new deals so far.
