Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink defended Diego Costa after the striker punched a hole in the tunnel.

Chelsea drew 2-2 with West Brom last night and the frustration proved too much for the Brazil-born Spain international.

Costa dented the perspex wing in the Chelsea tunnel at full-time after picking an argument with Baggies goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.

But Hiddink laughed off the incident, saying: "We can repair that easily enough, that's not a problem. He is an emotional guy and I like that very much."

Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli has confirmed he wants to stand down from his post.

Sampaoli is a target for Serie A outfit Roma and is said to be on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's shortlist of options to replace Hiddink at the end of the season.

Sampaoli reportedly has a £4.4million exit clause in his contract which could prove a stumbling block to his exit but insists he wants to move on.

"It appears that I will not be Chilean coach anymore," he said.

"I hope I can persuade [Football Federation of Chile president Arturo] Salah so he can understand my point.

"It is impossible for me to pay the clause."

Chelsea News: Costa throws punch, manager target wants move, shock deal for Spurs flop
Emmanuel Adebayor left Tottenham as a free agent last September

Chelsea could make a surprise move for Tottenham flop Emmanuel Adebayor, according to reports.

Hiddink has confirmed the west London club are looking to bring in a striker in January.

The Times report the Blues are considering bids for Leicester sensation Jamie Vardy, West Brom misfit Saido Berahino and Atletico Madrid frontman Jackson Martinez.

But it is claimed Chelsea could offer free agent Adebayor a short-term deal if they fail to land an alternative before the February 2 deadline.
