Alex Teixeira is expected to become Guus Hiddink's first signing after reports from Spain that Willian and Oscar had convinced him to head to west London.
News News Blog Sport revealed Teixeira was the subject of a £30million bid towards the end of December and now the move is getting closer.
The Brazil forward has been offered a five-year deal.
The 25-year-old has scored 25 goals in 21 games for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian league and the Champions League this term.
He would not be eligible to play for Chelsea in Europe but would add to their spark up front as they bid to overcome their disastrous first half of the Premier League season.
Hiddink won for the first time as interim boss yesterday with a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
The Blues are still 13 points off fourth-placed Tottenham but are now six points above the relegation zone.
And Hiddink believes a Champions League spot is still possible.
"It's difficult because this league has become so strong; everyone can win from everyone," said Hiddink.
"It's very difficult to get there. It's possible but there's a long way to go."
