DANIEL CONGRE will have talks in the coming days over a January move to Aston Villa.
The 30-year-old defender is most comfortable at centre-back but can play across the backline, and his experience is seen as the perfect antidote to Villa's current defensive problems.
Congre's contract expires in June but looks unlikely to be offered a new deal, meaning Montpellier will be happy to cash in on the player.
And Express Sport understands the player will arrive in Birmingham for talks with the club and fellow countryman Remi Garde over the next week.
A France under-21 international, Congre began his career at Toulouse, making more than 200 appearances for the club before moving to Montpellier in 2012.
Congre has missed only one Ligue 1 game for La Paillade this season, but has yet to have his contract renewed, attracting the attention of Garde, who had admired the player during his time as Lyon manager.
Should Garde bring Congre to Villa, he will provide competition for perennially injured Micah Richards and Ciaran Clark.
On-loan centre-back Tiago Ilori is likely to be going the other way at Villa Park, as he is set to return to Liverpool after failing to make a single appearance.
