The Spanish left-back has enjoyed a fine season with Premier League leaders, becoming first choice ahead of Kieran Gibbs.
However, his future was in doubt during the summer with Athletic Bilbao reportedly keen to sign the defender.
But the 29-year-old has been in talks over fresh terms for several months and now appears close to finalising a new deal.
Wenger admitted: "Yes, we will announce that at some stage but it is not finished.
"It is not over the line completely but we are not far."
