JOHNNY DEPP desperately needs a hit after recent box office disasters make him Hollywood's most overpaid actor in Forbes magazine's annual round up while FEMALE actors snatch four of the top five spots in the Best Value list.
Depp's career has gone from chests of pirate gold to a disastrous pile of fool's gold.
Forbes magazine has named him the most overpaid actor in Hollywood for 2015. Not only that, his film returns were FIVE TIMES worse than the second place actor on the list.
It's a shocking indictment of the box office catastrophes of Depp's recent films.
Despite starring in a string of high profile blockbusters, the star hasn't fronted a major hit since 2011's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Combined with that disappointment, Forbes annual round up of the best and worst value actors in Hollywood is closely watched by industry insiders.
Adam Sandler has topped the list of the worst value actors for the last two years, but Depp's double disasters of Transcendence and Mortdecai catapulted him into the highly-undesirable top spot.
Both were major turkeys which traded heavily on the star power of their leading man.
Even worse, they come hot on the heels of similar box office bombs like 2012's Dark Shadows and 2013's huge flop The Lone Ranger.
In 2015 Depp was estimated to have generated a paltry $1.20 on every dollar spent on his films, with Denzel Washington in second place on $6.50.
This follows his disappointment at being ignored by the 2016 Golden Globes for his striking transformation into real-life gangster Whitey Bulger in Black Mass.
The star is almost unrecognisable with white hair and a sunken features but was overshadowed by the likes of Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl and Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant.
The outrageous star will be hoping that his return as the Mad Hatter in next year's Alice Through The Looking Glass and 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No tales restore some of his box office clout.
The news comes after recent revelations that Harrison Ford made 76 times MORE than his co-stars on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The annual Forbes survey is based on films released between June 2014 and June 2015 and includes the last three major releases by each actor in a leading role.
Films must be released across a minimum of 2,000 screens and do not include cartoons.
