AVATAR 2 has been a LONG time coming but James Cameron has finally announced a release date for the next THREE films.

Avatar 2 FINALLY gets a release date – EIGHT flippin' years after the first film came out
It's been six years since the first Avatar film came out

The director revealed that all three instalments of the new trilogy are being filmed simultaneously, with projected release dates one year apart.
"I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies," Cameron said. "Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story."

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is currently looking set to beat the long-standing box-office record set by Avatar back in 2009.
So the timing couldn't be better for Cameron to reassert his claim to being the biggest film maker of all time.

Avatar 2 will be out in cinemas at Christmas in 2017

But when WILL Avatar 2 hit our screens?
The original release date was intended to be some time last year in 2014 but it looks like fans will have to wait another two years to return to Pandora.
"Christmas of 2017 is the target," Cameron confidently told the Toronto Gazette.
He then plans to release the following two films in 2018 and 2019 BUT warns fans not to count their bright blue eggs just yet...

"At least, that’s what we’ve announced," he said, before adding certain conditions.
"I don’t consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart."
Cameron revealed that the pre-production and design work for all three new films had been completed.
"We’ve finished all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see," he said. "The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done... Infrastructure."
So what's left?

Oh yes, the acting.
"We’re really poised to start after the first of the year," Cameron declared.
Many of the performances from the original film were motion captured and Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver are both expected to return.
We're unclear exactly how this will work since Weaver's character dramatically died and was absorbed into the planet in the original film.

There is no news as yet on the return of Zoe Saldana's feisty female alien.
Whoever is involved, whenever it finally hits our screens, Cameron has guarenteed one thing already about the new films.
"I can tell you one thing about them, they’re gonna be bitchin," he said.
We don't doubt him for a second...
