Van Gaal is expected to retire when his contract at United expires in 18 months' time.

And United have already begun forming a succession plan, according to reports in Italy.

It is said the Red Devils have approached both Ancelotti and fellow Italian Massimiliano Allegri
 
Tottenham are trying to tie down four stars to new deals, according to reports.

The Independent claim Spurs are attempting to get Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli to sign new contracts.

Dembele has 18 months left at White Hart Lane while Eriksen, Lamela and Chadli all have two-and-a-half years to go on their current deals. 
 
Arsenal may reportedly make a January move for Sporting Lisbon ace William Carvalho.

The Telegraph report Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking at Carvalho to solve his midfield injury crisis.

The Portugal international has a release clause worth £35m but could be available for closer to £25m.
