Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino hits out at football's lack of patience after Mourinho sack
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino insists football's lack of patience is costing clubs

TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino has spoken out at football's short-term approach and believes the regular sacking of managers is costing clubs in the long run.

The Argentine used to look at English football with envy due to the loyalty offered to the man in charge.
But in the wake of , Pochettino has revealed his dismay that money is preventing managers from stamping their mark on club infrastructures.
"It is a lesson for all of us," he said. "You need to focus on the present, work hard and try to avoid different things. It is difficult to see what will happen in weeks or months. Football is running in a different way.
"The problem with football is that the patience is short. Today more than 10 years ago. Before there were examples of spending five, six or eight years to win the title and you were still in charge. Now it is so quick and can change.

"Maybe in Spain or Italy, where there is less money, they have changed their mentality and become like England in the past. They don't have money to pay the contracts.
"This season has been crazy so far. Before in England, people referred that managers have the time. Now it is like you only want to try and win but if you don't tomorrow, maybe you are sacked. Sometimes it is fair, sometimes not fair. It depends on the circumstances.
"We like to work and think in the present and the future to try and help your club. Football is about winning games but to set the philosophy, to be great, maybe England was the best place but maybe it is now different.
"We need to fight every time in the summer to invest money in players, to score goals and defend, but it is about more money."

Pochettino texted Jose Mourinho a message of support following his sacking as Chelsea manager

Pochettino was shellshocked by Chelsea's ruthless approach but took the time to send a text to Mourinho and lamented his loss from English football.
"There has not been time to speak," said the 43-year-old. "We will call him in time. Sometimes people need to be calm and he needs to be calm.
"Jose brought a lot of things; his character, his personality, his mentality. A lot of positive things we will miss."
Pochettino presents a bleak outlook for the game but insists he is not feeling the pressure himself at Tottenham
"It is not easy," he said. "You sometimes need bad things to improve and it is difficult to be consistent if you create pressure.

"After 18 months at Spurs, we have the basis for sure, to win some titles. I am sure. The base is very strong. We have a young squad that can only improve and we need time.
"I don't stress about my future if something wrong happens. I think about the present. I am not scared about being sacked - I am very positive. I always believe we can do well."
Pochettino returns to his old club Southampton today and insists successor Ronald Koeman will be given the time to get things right despite five games without a win.
"Southampton is a very stable club and Koeman is a great manager and he has done fantastically well," he said.
"Their position today is difficult to judge the team. The gap is close. The most important thing is the end of the season. All the teams have had good and bad, up and down results. You need to judge manager and squad at the end of the season."
