Ryan Giggs is the new name in the frame for the Swansea job |
RYAN GIGGS is the surprise name in the frame for the Swansea job to replace Garry Monk.
The Swans parted company with Monk yesterday after a slide down the table saw them one point off the relegation zone having won just once in 11 games.
Brendan Rodgers appears to have ruled out a return and Huw Jenkins is ready to take his time over a replacement.
And Giggs, assistant to Louis van Gaal at United, is someone he wants to talk to before making his decision, according to the Independent.
Giggs took charge of United on a caretaker basis for four games after David Moyes was sacked in 2014.
Van Gaal has repeatedly said Giggs will take over as United boss after his contract runs out in 2017.
Giggs watched on this week as Gary Neville took over at Valencia - a move which could increase his chances of getting the United job if he's successful in Spain.
Monk was sacked yesterday |
The 42-year-old is known to be keen on a career in management but now may face a difficult decision in leaving Old Trafford.
Giggs was born in Cardiff which may bring complications while other candidates for the job include Dennis Bergkamp, Mark Warburton, Gus Poyet and Avram Grant.
Monk released a statement today through the LMA, saying: "It's with great sadness that I am leaving this special club.
"Over the last twelve years I have been part of the Swansea City family. It has been both an honour and a privilege to play for and manage this club.
"I believe that whenever you join a football club, the supporters deserve your blood, sweat and tears. I can say for sure I gave all those things and more."
