DANNY MURPHY believes Louis van Gaal should be sacked as Manchester United manager and replaced by his assistant Ryan Giggs.
Van Gaal is under pressure at United after overseeing a dismal slump in form which continued on Saturday as the Red Devils suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Norwich.
The United boss and his players were booed off the pitch as their winless run extended to six matches, leaving them nine points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City.
And with Jose Mourinho becoming available after being sacked by Chelsea, even more pressure has been piled upon Van Gaal, with rumours suggesting the Portuguese boss could take over from the Dutchman at Old Trafford.
But ex-England international Murphy believes current assistant boss and club legend Giggs should be the man the United board turn to if they do decide to make a managerial change.
He told talkSPORT: “I think United need a change. I am not one of these people that think you should sack managers every time you have a bad run but I can see the players' body language and I can sense the players aren't [behind him].
“I would give it to Giggs. At least until the end of the season to see how it goes.
“He looks like he wants it, he is passionate and he knows how United fans want them to play.”
