RIO FERDINAND believes Louis van Gaal should be given more time at Manchester United after the Red Devils drew with Chelsea.
Van Gaal admitted he will not resign after the 0-0 draw, but United have now failed to win in eight games in all competitions for the first time since 1990.
But Juan Mata and Anthony Martial both hit the woodwork in an improved United display against the Blues.
And Ferdinand admits that if United continue to play in the same way they did against Chelsea, then Van Gaal should be given more time.
He told BT Sport: "I think the encouragement is there with the way they are playing now, which goes back to the the identity that Manchester United have built over the years.
"If that continues then I think he is within his right to try and make it right in the three year term he has got.
"But if you don't see an improvement or encouragement that it is going to go that way then I think it is inevitable that a change of manager will come at some point."
