WAYNE ROONEY is one of six players ready to give under-fire Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal a boost this weekend.
Skipper Rooney has missed the last three games with an ankle injury suffered in the draw at Leicester. But he has returned to training with the first team squad and is line for a recall for the home clash with struggling Norwich tomorrow.
Phil Jones and Morgan Schneiderlin, both fit enough to be named on the bench in the defeat at Bournemouth, will also be back after a full weeks' training.
And Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian and Ander Herrera are also in contention as United seek to end a five-game win-less run and quell growing unrest among their followers.
Viv Anderson is the latest former United player to criticise Van Gaal - and declared that the club should compete with neighbours City if, as expected, Pep Guardiola, announce he is leaving Bayern Munich next summer.
"United should go for Pep Guardiola straight away," he said. "I would have gone for him before Louis van Gaal if I had the chance. He's a very good manager, he gets the teams to play in the right way.
"It's more about the philosophy of Manchester United that you have to instil in the manager and I don't think they did their homework when they employed Van Gaal.
"Man United have to play in a certain way and fans are voting with their feet now, they're not liking what they're seeing at the moment. Who would I like to see there long-term? Ryan Giggs."
