LIVERPOOL will challenge Real Madrid for Xabi Alonso next summer, according to reports.
The 34-year-old is out of contract with Bayern Munich in June, prompting both his former clubs to show interest.Spanish publication Vozpopuli claims both teams are prepared for a tug of war once he becomes a free agent.It's understood the former Spain international is looking for a three-year deal, which Bayern are unwilling to meet.And the midfielder has admitted while his family are comfortable in Germany, he can't rule out a return to either team."My family and I are feeling very comfortable in Munich and we are happy here," he explained."At the moment I am focused on the season and Bayern - I don't know what is going to happen in the future but hopefully I will know soon."

Alonso spent five seasons at both clubs, representing Liverpool from 2004 to 2009 before joining Real Madrid for £30million.He has since gone on to make 38 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern, scoring two goals in the process.
