Simon Mignolet is set to be offered a new Liverpool contract |
SIMON MINGOLET is set to agree a new contract at Liverpool before the end of the year.
Talks are advanced with Mignolet's representatives and no problems are expected to arise.
Mignolet was at fault for West Brom's opening goal in Sunday's 2-2 stalemate after colliding with team-mate Christian Benteke when trying to reach Chris Brunt's corner. Craig Dawson profited from the mistake.
But Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp backed his goalkeeper afterwards, saying: “I said to Simon at half-time that if somebody says it was your fault, it is not true.
“It is my fault. I want a keeper who comes out and tries for everything. There is nothing negative to say about Simon. The first goal he tried and that for me is important. He can help if he comes out.”
Mignolet’s current contract is due to expire in 2018.
