Jurgen Klopp delighted with decision to start Daniel Sturridge in emphatic Liverpool win
Daniel Sturridge scored twice in Liverpool's 6-1 win over Southampton

DANIEL STURRIDGE scored twice and Divock Origi struck a hat-trick as Liverpool went rocking and rolling into the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup, having beaten Southampton 6-1.

They were then drawn against Stoke, avoiding neighbours Everton, who face Manchester City.
Sturridge marked his first start for Jurgen Klopp following injuries with two stunning goals after Sadio Mane had headed Southampton in front after only 41 seconds.
Klopp said: “The problem with Daniel is we did not know how long he can play for. He did not have the perfect pre-season, but it was a good decision to play him.

Jurgen Klopp has only lost one game in charge of 11 matches with the Reds

“I said to him after the game that now I know what everyone is talking about. But of course, I knew all about Daniel. I am delighted with the result but I had some problems with the first minute and then the next 10. But we scored super goals.”
As for the draw? “It is two games, whose idea was this?” said Klopp.
At the moment it hardly seems to matter as this victory stretched Klopp’s brilliant start to only one defeat in 11.
Nothing has been more emphatic than this as Liverpool reached a record 16th League Cup final, a competition they have won a record eight times.

Liverpool’s former Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana said: “We want to keep the momentum we have gained. It is not a miracle what the manager has done, he has come in and put his ethos into the squad.”
It was Southampton’s biggest home defeat for 56 years and manager Ronald Koeman said: “They were very complete, defensively strong and they killed the game by high quality.
“I am disappointed. You don’t expect a defeat of 6-1.”
