GEMMA DAVISON has revealed her special relationship with Emma Hayes was the driving force behind her inspired move to Chelsea Ladies.
The England winger joined the Blues from Liverpool and helped them secure the league and FA Cup double.
It meant golden girl Davison has won the Women's Super League title two years on the bounce after the final day drama of 2014.
Davison scored eight times for Hayes's side this term as they pipped City to the title on the final day of this season.
The 28-year-old worked with Hayes during her spells at Arsenal and, being from Barnet, jumped at the chance to move south again.
"It’s been special at Chelsea this year, coming in to the team I knew we’d be a forced to be reckoned with and I think we performed consistently all year," Davison said.
Winning two trophies, and the league was our target, and I just wanted to come to a club that had that ambition and do the same thing I’d done previously.
"For me I wanted to come back down south, I really enjoyed Liverpool and it was a big part in my career and changing my game up, adding layers to my game, and I don’t think I’d have had as good a season if I wasn’t at Liverpool the year before.
"I wanted to play for Emma Hayes, she’s been there for me throughout my whole career and it just felt right to do it, and I’ve enjoyed an amazing season.
"I’ve known her since I was 17, she knows how to get the best out of me and how to push me and push players.
"That’s her talent (player management) as well as her football knowledge, and she’s got a great team behind her as well.
"She’s a winner, if you want to win trophies you’ve got to play for a manager who has no other ambitions but to win and she’ll get the best out of you.
"Personally she knows how to work with every individual, if the standard’s not good enough you’ll feel the wrath of Emma Hayes, individually she’s very, very good.
"She’s got a great coaching group behind her, she’s very astute with all the tactical stuff that we do and she’s very technical and wants us to play with freedom."
Davison's form for Chelsea has seen her recalled into the England set up, but she admits having to watch the World Cup from home was frustrating.
But rather than get the hump she got her notebook out and studied every match in Canada, learning from the world's top players.
Since then she's started in both the qualifiers for Euro 2017, against Estonia and Bosnia, and hopes to involved long term in Mark Sampson's set up.
"It was frustrating but at the end of the day you can control what you can control," she added.
"I set myself a target of starting the season strong and scoring goals, and I achieved that.
"Then I had some time to watch the World Cup, watch some of my best friends play and inspire a nation, and come back and see if I could get in after it.
"I had to stay consistent and light the league up a bit and I think I’ve done that and I’m really happy to be back in the squad and hopefully I’ll be there to stay.
"It was disappointing at the time but that’s the one thing about being at Chelsea, they keep you very focused on the club and Emma’s been there for me since I was 17 and was there for me in the summer.
"I just knuckled down and I watched every single game at the World Cup, not just the England games, I watched them all."
Davison picks out the FA Cup final - played at Wembley Stadium for the first time - as her season highlight after beating Notts County.
And after getting a taste for it she has set her sights on more and more silverware.
"It’s funny every time I drive past Wembley now I’m like ‘I’ve played there’," she said.
"And it’s something I want to do again and again, and hopefully next time I’ll get on the score sheet.
"I have no other expectation but to play in finals and win silverware, to play at Wembley is something you want to do every year.
"I don’t want to be somewhere, I wouldn’t be happy, if I wasn’t in a cup final or winning something because it’s just not in my blood."
