MANUEL PELLEGRINI says it is bag for English football that Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League last night.

to finish third in Group B and condemn them to the Europa League knockout stages next spring.
Pellegrini's Manchester City side topped Group D, which contained Juventus, Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach - a draw that was identified back in August as the 'Group of Death'

And, asked how he managed to haul his side to the top of the pile after City's 4-2 win over Monchengladbach last night, Pellegrini said: "The most important thing was to qualify for the next stage.
"It is not so easy. You must ask another English team - it is not so easy to do it.
"It seems easy, but it is not. This was the Group of Death, the four best leagues in Europe.
"I think the more teams we have in the next round is better for the Premier League and English football, so it is a pity for them (United) and not good for England."

City's £49million summer signing Raheem Sterling scored twice for the home side as they came from behind to beat Monchengladbach.
David Silva had opened the scoring only for Julian Korb to level for the Germans, who then took the lead though Raffael.
However, a three-minute double from Sterling and a tap in from Wilfred Bony late on ensured the victory that, coupled with Juventus' 1-0 loss to Sevilla, lifted City to the top of their group
