GARY MADINE lifted the gloom over cash-strapped Bolton with the goal that sealed their first win in 18 games.
Neil Lennon's side are still bottom of the Championship, but as the manager said: "It's a big three points for us. This win will give the players a huge shot of confidence. It has been a long time coming, but they played really well and deserved it.
"We have been through hard times, but I thought the response today was fantastic. The players showed a lot of guts and it's a step in the right direction."
There were signs early in the game that Bolton were in the mood to improve on a miserable show at Rotherham in their last game which they lost 4-0 and Blackburn were fortunate to avoid an early setback as Dean Moxey, a target for Wolves, picked out Zach Clough with a left-wing cross.
Clough, who is also being watched by several Championship clubs keen to cash in on Bolton's cash crisis, diverted the ball against the post with goalkeeper Jason Steele stranded. Madine failed to hit the target from the rebound.
It was not until the 78th minute that the winner came but what a crucial strike it was as Madine chested down Moxey's long throw before turning to beat Jason Steele from eight yards.
