ARSENE WENGER has sprung to the defence of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, insisting speculation about his future is totally "disrespectful".
The Dutchman's job at Old Trafford is increasingly in danger following his side's renewed poor form but Arsenal manager Wenger believes the clamour for him to leave is most unfair.
It comes a week after Jose Mourinho lost his job at Chelsea with the Portuguese now linked with the job at United.
Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola also announced he will be leaving the German champions in the summer amid a potential move to Manchester City or Chelsea.
And Wenger, who is the Premier League's longest serving manager, is not happy with the state of play.
"I do not want to go in a world of speculation," said Wenger. "I have huge respect to Louis Van Gaal and what is going on at the moment is disrespectful.
"This guy has worked for 30 years in football and has delivered unbelievable quality of work. Of course he deserves more time.
"I don't like the fact that a manager has come out so early as it is not good for his own team not for the speculation on other managers going through a difficult patch."
Wenger reckons Guardiola will be a success if he does opt to come to England but knows the Premier League needs to keep hold of home-grown bosses.
"He's a top-quality manager, nobody can dispute that," he said. "I think about the positive attitude he has towards the game and the fact he wants his team to play football in a positive way that I respect.
"Of course we want this league to be the best in the world but we want a right balance.
"You need 40 to 50 per cent of foreign managers but you need to give chances to local managers like Eddie Howe from Bournemouth. You do not want to kill that.
"You do not want to be exclusively foreign managers, even if I am one. It's important to have the balance right as you want local culture."
