WATCH Shaolin monks smash iron bars over their heads and perform death-defying stunts with razor-tipped chain whips in our exclusive video clips.
If your idea of a monk is a quiet chap humming hymns in a monastery, think again.
The famous Shaolin monks are seriously bad ass and perform some truly death-defying stunts.
They are like something out of a Jackie Chan film – only for real and a LOT more terrifying.
You really woudln't want to mess with a guy who can smash an iron bar over his head and then smile about it, would you?
Oh yes, and please don't try any of these stunts at home. Obviously.
Developed in the Buddhist Shaolin Temple in Henan province China, Shaolin Kung Fu is among the oldest institutionalised styles of Chinese martial arts.
It's perhaps most famous for mind-blowing feats of physical strength and endurance such as the act of breaking bricks on the head and two finger handstands.
We have all seen a karate kid chop a piece of plywood in half. Now you can watch as these incredible Shaolin Monks make that trick look like child’s play.
Starting with a simple gong of one iron bar against another, the monks introduction is made.
So far, so serene – except that this piece of metal could easily crack your skull open.
Next we see the slender lad mentally prepare for what we know is coming.
With one calm and quiet breath, he holds the bar low. It all looks very peaceful and rather pretty, but not for long.
With no warm up whatsoever, the highly-skilled (and spectacularly fearless) monk swiftly strikes the bar smack bang in the middle of his head.
It's hard to believe what has just happened, except that we get a handy recap in slow-motion and we actually see the iron split into two as the shards spin off into the distance.
Ouch. And ouch again.
It really is jaw-dropping stuff.
These monks certainly put to shame all those lilly-livered Hollywood action stars who rely on stunt double.
Check out our gallery next, including one famous female star who uses a MALE stunt double...

Meanwhile in a forest nearby another Shaolin Monk puts on a demonstration with one of the coolest kung-fu weapons out there.
And when we say cool, we mean utterly deadly and seriously scary. Oh yes, ladies and gentleman, meet the delightful chain whip chap.
The foldable nine-section chain whip, regarded as a powerful concealable weapon, was first used on the battlefield during the Jìn Dynasty over 1600 years ago.
We get to watch as the monk ferociously whirls the chains through his legs and over and around his head, all with dazzling speed and precision.
Did we mention that it can also be poisonous?
Heavy but flexible, the chain whip allows the attacker to hit, hook and bind the opponent and to deflect blows from other weapons.
When bolstered with a dart tip, it becomes a lethal tool for slashing or piercing.
And yes, in some instances the dart is coated in poison.
Charming.
