The Inter Milan striker has scored three goals in 10 games this season and Jurgen Klopp wants him at Anfield.
Icardi was tracked by Premier League clubs in the summer but was convinced to stay put.
However the German, who replaced Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool last month, is hopeful of getting his man.
Klopp's Anfield reign has been disturbed by the injury-list, led by Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings while Christian Benteke has also struggled.

The Bayern Munich winger, 31, is wanted by Louis van Gaal to inject some pace into United's attack.
Van Gaal claimed his side have struggled because his wingers - Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard - aren't quick enough.
And Robben, who used to play for Chelsea, seems to be he quick fix to that problem.
